Police Department Services & Responsibilities

The Richmond Heights Police Department is a progressive Police Department that, along with protecting life and property, provides an array of services to its residents and visitors.  We pride ourselves in staying on the cutting edge of technology to help provide a better level of services.

The Police Department is made up of several divisions:

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is typically the element of the department with whom residents and visitors have their initial contact with the police department.  Patrol is responsible for enforcing state and county laws as well as Richmond Heights ordinances.  Patrol handles all calls for service and, in many cases, conducts investigations.

Detective Bureau

The Detective Bureau is responsible for investigating crimes that occur in Richmond Heights, utilizing high technology equipment and working in cooperation with other agencies.

P.A.C.T. Unit

The P.A.C.T. Unit (Police And Community Together) is the department’s community policing unit and is responsible for handling such programs as D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Neighborhood Watch, Citizens Public Safety Academy, Bicycle Rodeo, National Night Out Against Crime® and safety seminars on several topics.

Saint Louis Galleria/The Boulevard-St. Louis Detail
The Boulevard-St. Louis detail consists of a Sergeant and three uniformed police officers permanently assigned to patrol the Saint Louis Galleria and The Boulevard-St. Louis during operating hours. There are two marked patrol units assigned to the detail. Additionally, the detail has two police bicycle units. The combination of uniformed foot patrols, uniformed bicycle patrols, and marked vehicle patrols provides high visibility and fast response to calls.

Prisoner Processing Division
The Prisoner Processing Division, also referred to as the Conveyance Unit, serves the consortium of the Richmond Heights, Maplewood, Webster Groves, Shrewsbury and Olivette police departments. The division's primary responsibilities are to transport persons in custody, book and process subjects arrested by officers of the consortium, and ensure the well being of each prisoner while being housed at the Richmond Heights' jail. There are a wide variety of daily duties each officer performs in order to assure each department is kept up-to-date on the status of every prisoner.

Dispatching

Dispatching for Richmond Heights Police and Fire Departments is done through a six-city consortium know as East Central Dispatch Center (ECDC). Although housed in the Richmond Heights Public Safety building, ECDC is a separate entity from all participating agencies.
